Who does this remind you of?

Asleep, waiting for Mom...

Ahhh, Married Life!

QB and I were watching Oprah tonight and he said something not so nice.

QB - "Am I going to hell?"
Me - "Well you are not going to heaven!"
QB - "At least we will be together forever...."

A Moment to Remember

The Present and Dimples had a busy day that involved lots of getting dirty. After dinner, I took them both up to take a bath. Dimples has not been the biggest fan of bath time lately so I put her in, washed her up, got her out and dried her off. While I was putting her into her jammies, The Present got into the tub. He LOVES bath time and can, and will, stay in until I evict him by draining the tub.

Tonight I was tired, so I let The Present just play in the tub after he was clean. Dimples was running around in her jammies and I was sitting on the floor, clipping my nails, only half paying attention.

Next thing I know, both Dimples and The Present are CRACKING up. I will never forget it. When your children make each other belly laugh....well there is no feeling that explains it. I just watched them, Dimples would throw her binky in the tub and The Present would toss it out on the floor. Repeat. Laugh lots and lots.

This went on for about 3 minutes, I kept thinking I needed to run down and get the video camera, but I didn't want the moment to end. I guess I am left with the memory, in hopes that it will last in my mind for years to come.

As I sat there, I wondered.

Did Miss Smarty Pants and I have moments like these when we were young?
Did my mom sit and smile at us with tears in her eyes like I did tonight?
Will there be lots of these silly moments in our future?

I hope so.

Let's go fly a kite

Tonight we were invited over to Nana and Grandpa's for ribs done in the smoker. Of course we said YES! It was a windy night, so before we left our house I grabbed the Superman kite I had picked up at Wally World for a buck a few weeks back. After a DELICIOUS dinner, we headed out to the green park next to Nana's house.

What fun it was!

The Present and Grandpa got the kite up first, Nana got to fly it next followed by Aunt Smartie , and last but not least, me and QB. Dimples didn't fly it, but she ran around the park with her arms in the air pointing and laughing.

I can't wait for the next windy day.

So far, so great!

As many of you know, Nana and Grandpa moved about 1 mile away from us at the first of the year. Their idea was to "Winter" in the desert, "Summer" at their old place, and travel all the while. (According to Grandpa, everyday is a Saturday during retirement - How....Sweet.....It.... Is!)

Anyway, they got moved into the new place, and we have been neighbors for several weeks. It's been fun. We have been over to their place several times for dinner and they have been over to our place several times to watch the kids. (Read between the lines - we go eat for free at their place and leave before the dishes are done because the kids are tired, and they come over here to supply us with free babysitting and unload my dishwasher). Did I mention that it has been great so far?

That brings us to tonight. Nana and Grandpa were on a walk and they stopped by. QB and I were getting ready to fry up some crappie, the house was a complete mess, and the kids were all busy doing what kids do. It was wonderful. Grandpa sat for a minute, Nana was ready to get in and out - not wanting to stay too long for an unannounced visit, and before we knew it they were gone. QB and I loved it.

This is what being neighbors is all about.

It feels so good...

The Firecracker is here, upstairs playing Wolfenstein on the computer with her friend.
The Present is down stairs, drinking chocolate milk and watching Krypto the Superdog (his new favorite - Thank you Boomerang channel).
Dimples is happily drilling on the Black and Decker tool bench The Present got for Christmas 2 years ago from Nana and Grandpa.
QB is working, home in a bit.
Ground Beef thawing for hamburgers on the grill tonight for dinner, a delicious Saturday tradition.

What a happy moment in time.

The Air Show

When Miss Smarty Pants and I were kids, Dad, and sometimes Mom, would take us to the Air Show to watch the Thunderbirds fly. While we were there, we could walk through the big cargo planes, look into the fighter jets, and see all kinds of wonderful things. We have such good memories from those times. Well, except that one time when 200,000 OTHER people showed up, so we had to walk home in the really HOT weather, but at least it makes for a good story.

Fast Forward 30 years.

The Thunderbirds were coming to town...here...by us. Nana and Grandpa wondered if The Present might want to go. Of course he would. It's beautiful in the desert this time of year, he loves planes and he loves to fly. So off we went.

I was a great day, and left us with great memories. The Present loved to look at the planes, he loved sitting in them, and flying the red one. I will never forget the look on his face when he heard the roar of the Thunderbirds overhead. Yes a great day, and great memories indeed. I can't wait until next time, when we can take Dimples too.

Girl Scout Cookie Time

Here is a peek into my kitchen tonight.

The Present fell down on the tile after he and The Quarterback were playing chase. He hurt his elbow, and was sitting in my lap with Mr. Happy on his elbow.

The Quarterback pulled a Thin Mint cookie out of the freezer and said "I know something that will make that elbow feel better," and he hands The Present the frozen Thin Mint cookie.

The Present sets Mr. Happy down and replaces it with the Thin Mint cookie. He sits for a minute with the cookie on his elbow while The Quarterback and I are laughing so much we cry. He looks up at me, then he looks at his dad and says, "When my elbow feels better can I eat this?!?"

Fast forward 3 hours to when we eat some more Thin Mints. The Present takes his, puts it on his elbow for a few seconds, then pops it in his mouth.

I once was lost, but now I am found...

Busy, that is the word that sums up my life lately. I feel like I have been here, there and everywhere, and the end is finally in site. An announcement today that my March work trip is cancelled (YEAH), so now I can take a deep breath and relax. So much has happened, so much to share, so here are a few things that top the list.

  • Dimples took her first steps. I was in San Antonio, TX and QB gave me the call. She is wobbly, but full of fun, she just grins and next thing you know, she has moved. It's sort of like a dance.

  • The Present and I made Rice Crispy Treats for our Superbowl party. He likes to call them "Rice Christmas Treats" as in "Mom, can we make some more rice Christmas treats today?

  • The Present got a new bike from Santa, and he is so good at riding it. We went to this great park yesterday with a friend, and he was zipping all over the place.

  • One down, one to go - The Present is potty trained. He hasn't had an accident in weeks (months?). Yeah for him, yeah for me!
